Carbon Sequestration

The Region of Interest I selected to make this map is a point of land that sticks out and is encircled by the Iguazu River at the border between Argentina and Brazil. On the other side of the river is the Brazilian National Park, and west of the area is part of the park, but the east is not in the park. The area itself is not part of the park and was used for many reasons but is now being used for rewilding. The climate is one of a rainforest. The delimitations at difference in biodiversity can be seen on the map. When removing the layers and turning on the satellite.

This assignment uses data available to us on global open-source databases to calculate the CSPI which is key in setting up and determining where to set up conservation areas and protect forest which can regrow. To calculate this index, one needs the Forest Cover, Gross Primary production (GPP) and Aboveground Carbon Density (ACD). The latter of which are mapped with their respective layers to be visually represented. Thanks to this map we can observe the areas with lower GPP and ACD and mark them as zones for which conservation should be prioritized. The software used for this map was mainly Google Earth Engine. With the programs run on this software we were also able to calculate the index and all the other indicators as well as mapping them.
